Experienced Leadership, Proven Results

Kieran McKenzie is running for re-election as Ward 9 City Councillor, bringing a proven track record of experience, trusted leadership, and real results for Windsor residents. Widely respected across the community, Kieran is known by neighbours and colleagues alike for his deep compassion, collaborative approach, and unwavering effectiveness in getting things done at City Hall. His ability to navigate complex governance comes from a lifetime of public service. Before being elected, Kieran spent 12 years as the Legislative Assistant to Windsor West MP Brian Masse, where he served in a critical policy development role. During his time working in the Federal Parliament, Kieran helped drive some of the region’s most vital environmental and infrastructure initiatives:

  • Protecting the Great Lakes: Kieran helped author a landmark federal Motion dedicated to protecting vital Great Lakes habitats Brian Masse Great Lakes Motion, safeguarding regional biodiversity, and fighting climate change.
  • Gordie Howe International Bridge Bike Lanes: Working closely with MP Brian Masse, Kieran fought for and successfully secured a commitment to include dedicated active transportation and cycling infrastructure on the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
  • Ojibway National Urban Park: He did significant foundational work advancing the early concept and advocacy required to protect the Ojibway Prairie Complex, laying the groundwork to eventually establish Canada's next National Urban Park.

Complementing this legislative track record is his extensive work in the Non-Profit sector. Currently working in Community Relations at Family Respite Services Windsor-Essex, Kieran supports local families living with disabilities every day. Previously, Kieran served as the Director of Development for Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor-Essex as well as the Director of Development for Energy for Opportunity, a Canadian Registered Charity operating in the renewable energy sector.

This professional background grounds his council work in profound empathy, ensuring that city decisions always put people first. On City Council, Kieran is recognized as the leading champion for sustainable urban development. He advocates strongly for smart housing solutions that are supported by resilient, modern infrastructure. As Council's foremost voice for transit and active transportation, he has consistently fought to secure vital resources to support the most vulnerable among our citizens, ensuring that Windsor's growth leaves no one behind.

Around the Council table and throughout the community, Kieran has turned his advocacy into action. His proven council record includes delivering on key community priorities:

  • Standing up for workers: Opposed the illegal outsourcing of municipal jobs to protect workers' rights and promote a healthy, supportive workplace culture.
  • Expanding transit access: Advocated for and successfully secured improved, more sustainable transit services in South Windsor.
  • Improving active transportation: Fought for and secured key infrastructure expansions for improved active transportation and cycling networks.
  • Brightening neighbourhoods: Added solar lights to neighbourhoods across Ward 9 to improve visibility and community security.
  • Enhancing public safety: Improved neighbourhood public safety by implementing school and neighbourhood safety zones.
  • Investing in recreation: Worked directly to replace and upgrade playgrounds and parks amenities to enrich family spaces.
  • Enhancing city services: Fought for and delivered improved waste collection services for local residents.
  • Building climate resilience: Addressed critical flooding resiliency challenges directly at the neighbourhood level to safeguard local homes.

Because of this proven effectiveness, Kieran’s council colleagues have repeatedly trusted him to Chair high-profile municipal Boards and Committees tasked with steering Windsor’s core infrastructure, environment, transit, and economic future:

  • Chair, Windsor Utilities Commission (WUC)
  • Chair, Environment, Transportation, and Public Safety Standing Committee
  • Chair, Transit Windsor Board
  • Vice-Chair, Development and Heritage Standing Committee
  • Vice-Chair, Your Quick Gateway (YQG) Windsor Airport Board
  • Board Member, Roseland Golf and Curling Club
  • Former Chair, Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA)

Kieran McKenzie has spent his career bridging the gap between complex policy and everyday people. He has the experience that counts, the compassion that connects, and the effectiveness that delivers. He is ready to continue the fight for a greener, fairer, and more vibrant Windsor.
